Who is your God? Is the Most High your God or the works of His hands? Whatever you esteem above God is your god. Your highly paying job may be your god; your jewelery collection may be your god; your spouse may be your god. Whatever your adore and glorify above the creator of heaven and earth is your god. An older friend of mine who has marital problems told me her pitiful story. In the midst of it, she admitted that she once feared her husband more that God. I was shocked. I said to her " You are the reason behind your problems. God is a jealous God-He won't share His glory with anyone (Exodus 34:14, Deuteronomy 6:15 )." How could she had referenced her husband more than the Most High? It was very hard for me to comprehend. She's still going through her problems-she needs to God for mercy to be set free.
Their sorrows shall be multiplied who hasten after another God.
--Psalm 16:4
King Nebuchadnezzar glorified his wealth and became an animal for 7 years (Daniel 4: 28-37). The Prophets of Baal were all slaughtered by Elijah -they esteemed their powerless god more than the living God (1 Kings 18: 20-40).
In conclusion, God is too big and mighty to share His glory with the works of His hands (Gen 1:31; Job 41: 11,33 ; John 1:1-3).
